Calendar Math: 5th Grade Starter Kit!!!!!!!!

OK....so I have been working for the past few weeks on something that I am soooooo excited to bring to you.

As you all know, I LOOOVVVEEE Calendar Math.  It is the one single subject that I have written more about on my blog than any other because it is just that good.  I credit Calendar with my students' success in math and I really cannot imagine teaching without it.  I literally move mountains in my schedule to get it in (even if it means doing a bit less direct teaching of the math lesson for the day.)  I never skip it and my students soar in math because of it.

So....what have I done?

It ended up being 300+!!!!!!
Well, I know that starting the process of Calendar (figuring out what numbers to use, how to set it up, visualizing how it will fit in your classroom) is a daunting task.  So I have tried to take that looming doom away from you.  I have created a Starter Kit for 5th grade (don't worry....4th and 3rd...possibly 6th....is on the way!!)  I am really excited about how this all turned out!

In the kit you will get:

Detailed explanations of how Calendar works.

EDITABLE Calendar sheets so you can eventually make it your own and tailor it more specifically to your classroom and students.

All the templates you will need to make your bulletin board.

Weblinks to help you implement the Calendar.

3 different "levels" of Calendar that will change throughout the year, so your students keep progressing through the standards.

A list of the Common Core State Standards in math that align to each of the tasks being asked on the Calendar.

And here is the best part......FOUR MONTHS worth of FILLED IN Calendar sheets that you can hand to your students to use.  You don't have to fill in the numbers yourself!  This gives you a great start to the year and helps you to figure out just exactly what needs to be put on the Calendar so that you can take off on your own one day! (there are also ANSWER KEYS for them all!!!!!)

Really, I am super excited about how this all turned out.  I hope that it will become a great resource for you.  And to kick it all off, the product is on sale right now!  So head on over and pick it up 5th grade teachers.  (like I said, the other grades will be soon to follow.)

Have you implemented Calendar in your room?  If so, I would LOVE to hear from you.  Talking about Calendar Math makes my heart happy :)

  1. I love this idea...I never thought about using calendar math in 5th grade, but I may have to give it a try. I'm heading over to your store right now to check it out :) I'll have to go back and read your other posts on it too!

  7. I already use and love calendar math. It really has made a difference in my classroom. I love that this version already has lots of pre-filled sheets! Makes things that much easier. I am adding this to my wishlist now. Thank you, Stephanie! :) Lattes and Laughter

  8. Every time I see this concept I have loved the idea and wished that someone would start a higher level version. I teach 8th grade, however, many of my students are very low. This would be a great addition to my group rotations to help my lower students bridge to 8th grade/Algebra skills. Can't wait to see the higher grades soon!

    1. It really is easy to tailor to your grade level standards (I know....easy for me to say, I have been doing it for years....) Just think about what the kids are really low in and where they need the most remediation. Then, add that to your daily Calendar. :)

  9. Wish I would've found this encouragement for Calendar Math when I was teaching 2nd last year - I always wondered if it did any good. Thanks for sharing! Too bad I'm moving up to 5th this year and won't be teaching math. So glad I found your blog!

  12. I used Calendar Math this year and I loved it. I will be curious how this affects them in math this coming school year. I ended up making up my own sheet for my 4th grade class after I purchased yours and we only did it one day a week on Monday, but we usually spent almost the whole class completing and going over everything and since I only had them for 50 minutes I still felt it was beneficial.

  13. WOW!!! You are ALL kinds of AMAZING! This looks incredible - I so agree that taking the time to build on students' skills leads to success in math - they NEED mastery of those skills. (Now go rest - that's an order!!!)

  15. OhMyOhMyOhMy!
There might be SIXTH GRADE Calendar Math?!
Ohhhhhhhh. That would be all kinds of awesome.
This is going to be a rough year with all of the changes, so I am anxious to get as many materials as I can from REAL people who actually work with children.
I am so excited that this might happen.
    First smile of the day!

Sending you happy summer, rest-while-you-can thoughts...

PS And if sixth grade CM doesn't happen, you know I will just cross out all of the 5s and adjust, right? :)

  16. I was recently moved to 5th grade math and I couldn't be more excited. However, I have lots of wonderful ideas for 4th grade language arts! I really think I want to incorporate this into my classroom this year!

    Thanks,

  17. I used Calendar Math this past school year in grade 4 and loved it. It made such a difference for some kids to have an extended period of time to learn key concepts (like rounding) rather than just a few days before we needed to move on. It was great come exam time at the end of the year too because stuff from early in the year was still current for them, not lost in memory from months ago. I made my own sheet that is very similar to yours using our 4th grade provincial curriculum. We did CM maybe 2/3 of the school days last year. I want to do even more this year. Since I saved the pages I made last year, I will just need minor tweaks and edits this year. Thanks for the great idea!

  18. Oh my goodness I just saw this product on Pinterest and got very excited! I started teaching in a new district last year and calendar math is used. I was also learning a new reading program, so I felt a little overwhelmed with all the new programs! I'm purchasing this...it's going to help me keep up with what is going on! Awesome!
