Sunday Pinspiration

Here is something I blatantly stole found on Pinterest.  It is a Homework "Little Black Book" and it is from the Scholastic Blog Teacher Alycia Zimmerman.  I LOVE this idea and it really is working in my class.

I have a black binder in my homework station.  It has 30 dividers in it, and a record form (again, that I just took from Ms. Zimmerman)  When a child doesn't do his homework, he fills out the record form and goes to Study Hall to do the missing work (my school has a "study hall" in place in the cafeteria at recess...which I know not all schools have.)

It is wonderful because now I not only have a record of missed assignments, but the REASON why it was not completed.  Then, come Friday for the Weekly Reports or during parent conferences, everything is documented, in the child's own writing.

Another thing I took from Pinterest is the idea to cover my file cabinet with contact paper.  Here was my inspiration pin  and here is how it turned out.

I used this type of contact paper
and LOVE it!  I wish I would have spray painted the entire thing, but just covering it has made a world of difference.

Last thing I am going to share today are the crate seats that were all the rage this summer.  I saw this pin and had a lightbulb moment....Crate seats are storage!!  I was determined to make them.  Well, I am decisively NOT crafty (I am not even sure WHY I even entertained the thought of making something like that!) and while at Wal-Mart...for the first and last time ever, I will NEVER set foot in there again!!....I saw these little ottomans (which were only $10 in the summer) and decided that I was getting those.  End of story.  And my kids love them.  They race over to the round table just to be the first to sit on them.

  3. I planned on making some of those crates too this summer but never got around to it....lol!
I found some ottomans like that at Big Lots. The kids love to sit on them and it also provides storage.
